fct phd scholarship in a non-academic context

Beatriz Carvalho

Beatriz has a degree in Educational Sciences and a Master’s degree in Social Education, Development and Local Dynamics from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Coimbra. During her master’s degree, she worked as a trainee in a residential care home, where she developed personal and social skills training for the children and young people in care. In her internship presentation, she developed a pedagogical resource entitled “Alfabeto da Parentalidade Positiva”, which aims to foster family interaction and contribute to building positive moments between caregivers and children/young people.

During her academic career, she was involved in associations, the student group, volunteering and the faculty’s coordinating and supervisory body, in particular the pedagogical council.

Before dedicating herself exclusively to her academic training, she worked in a residential care home and in an association at the Coimbra Pediatric Hospital, where she coordinated initiatives such as the “Prato Colorido, Corpo bem Nutrido” project, funded by the Auchan Foundation, which combines health, citizenship, personal development and family interaction in the waiting rooms of the pediatric hospital “Brincar no Hospital” and “Pés e Pernas para Andar”.

She is currently studying for a PhD in Educational Sciences with a specialty in education, community development and adult training at the same educational institution and has been focusing her research on the promotion and protection system, namely on family reunification processes. Her project is funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology as part of doctoral scholarships in a non-academic context, where ProChild CoLAB is the host institution.
