Child protection during the COVID-19 pandemic: Secondary analysis of national maltreatment data

In Europe, enormous gaps and inconsistencies persist in the systematic registration and monitoring of the phenomenon of mistreatment. Without this information, it is not possible to know how the systems are working, what additional preventive strategies are needed, whether the interventions developed are tailored to the needs of victims or whether vulnerable groups are adequately identified. The specificities of the pandemic period and the situation of confinement and closure of community support services to the families result in the increasing invisibility to the Child Protection System of situations of children at risk. Therefore, there is a need to describe and analyze the effects over time of the pandemic on children at-risk in family context.

To describe and analyze the effects over time of the pandemic on children at-risk in family context. This will contribute to support and improve public policies based on empirical evidence.
