Pedro Freitas
Research fellow

Pedro Freitas has a background in Biomedical Sciences (2021) and holds a Master’s degree in Pharmacy (2023) from the School of Health Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. During his master’s degree, he completed an internship at the Institute of Public Health of the University of Porto (ISPUP), where he developed his thesis on the potential abuse of clenbuterol in sports and its analytical detection, presented at the XVIII Colóquio de Farmácia.
During his internship at ISPUP, he was involved in several research projects focused on chronic diseases, medication consumption, and SARS-CoV-2, which allowed him to develop skills in data collection, statistical analysis (SPSS, STATA, R), and scientific writing. His work resulted in multiple contributions to international conferences, including oral communications, and a peer-reviewed publication.
He subsequently worked as a Research Fellow in the H3arts project (2023–2025), investigating early determinants of cardiovascular health in children and adolescents using international cohort data. His work focused on data harmonization and analysis, as well as exploring socioeconomic inequalities and cardiovascular health trajectories from childhood, contributing to several scientific presentations and ongoing research outputs.
Currently, Pedro is a Research Fellow in the project IMPACT4LIFE – How Changes in Adverse Early Childhood Events Impact Epigenetic Age Acceleration and Psychological Well-Being in Early Adolescence, at ProChild CoLAB – Laboratório Colaborativo, where he is involved in data management, statistical analysis, and scientific writing. He is also currently a PhD student in Public Health, further developing his research interests in health inequalities and life-course epidemiology.
