Parenting and children’s adaptation during the COVID-19 pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic and public health measures applied during the first few months of the Covid-19 pandemic had a substantial impact on the families’ lives, leading to changes in the well-being and mental health of both parents and children.

This study aimed to characterize the anxiety and adjustment problems of children and young people between 6 and 16 years of age in five European countries – Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Romania – during the Covid-19 pandemic, exploring the impact of different parenting dimensions, namely burnout, negative disciplinary parenting practices, transmission of threatening information related to Covid-19, modeling anxiety reactions, and parenting strategies to deal with Covid-19-related changes.
